Welcome Spring

After a long winter I'm so excited for spring to finally really be here. I think I'm going to take a little break from blogging and really enjoy the season. I have so many projects that I'm really looking forward to working on. Hope you all have a wonderful Spring time!

Are those really tiles?

My house was built in 1863. It had three fireplaces, but unfortunately two were filled in with cement..can you believe that? The mantle was so cool I wanted it to look like a working fireplace. I added the cast iron fireplace door and then it need tile to fill in. So I made my tiles out of sheet rock. I cut them to the size I wanted with a utility knife. Next I peeled off some of the paper( wetting it helped it come off easier) and with the knife I roughed up the edges and made gouges and knicks in the sheet rock. I painted them using a mix of browns and reds and a little green, trying to give each tile it's own look by adding more of one of the colors. I then sprayed the with Glossy Wood Tone spray by Design Master. I use joint compound mix to attach them.
