Welcome Spring

After a long winter I'm so excited for spring to finally really be here. I think I'm going to take a little break from blogging and really enjoy the season. I have so many projects that I'm really looking forward to working on. Hope you all have a wonderful Spring time!

Kitchen Island

This has got to be one of my best finds ever! I saw this piece at a yard sale and knew I had to have it... they wanted $5.00 more than what I had on me, so I dug around in the bottom of my purse and in my car and came up with it! Yay! Then trying to get it into the small trunk of my car wasn't easy. I tied it down and it was a little precarious on the ride home, about 20 miles, but we made it.

I sanded it and then wiped it down with paint thinner. Next I painted it black, and because I wanted a real distressed look I sanded it a lot. Sanding is my favorite part, it's like you can take out all your frustrations on it.

After sanding I stained it with mahogany stain and rubbed it in real good and then wiped any excess off with a little paint thinner.

I left the baskets natural, I think it gives a nice contrast to the black.
I love the way this piece turned out.

  20. So happy you linked up at A Crafty Soiree! I'm sorry I'm a bit tardy in making all my visits. I was out late last night and we had a terrible rain storm when I got home. Not good weather for using the computer!

I love your makeover, looks so much better in black and the distressing is great too. Thanks for sharing and I hope you'll join us for the newest one, it started today.

  21. Love, love, love it! What a fabulous find! You did a beautiful job. I love the black with the natural baskets. I've never heard of using paint thinner on it before painting. What does that do?
